Tennessee Renaissance Festival

The Tennessee Renaissance Festival is about 16th century England. The village of Covington Glen protected by the Castle Gywnn.

Castle Gwynn is a full size replica of a twelfth century border castle. You can tour the castle's first floor and grounds. In the air you will hear the sounds of Renaissance musicians and entertainers while the smell of festival foods drift through the air.

Queen Elizabeth strolls through the village with escorts while the villagers go about their duties of the day. The year is 1584 and a festival has been going on for 25 years. Skilled artisans and performers have come to impress the Queen.

During the festival you will see a jousting match. The Queen resides over it and with a speech starts the entertainment.

The main theme is a Renaissance marketplace, but also you will see a jousting tournament, live chess matches, juggling, comedy plays, pirates and others from that time period. A lot of people stayed in character as much as possible which I thought was quite entertaining.

The Dark Elves to the left, are Dungons and Dragons characters. While the Orc below is a World of Warcraft character.

There is a shop in the festival where you can rent an outfit and walk through the village in character. There are a lot of people who come and do this. Some of the visitors come dressed up as characters from warcraft games or medieval sci-fi movies. This really makes an extra plus for the festival.
