What is there to do on Old Hickory Lake

Old Hickory Lake is a reservoir for the city of Nashville that was built with a hydro electric dam. It was built on the Cumberland river upstream from Nashville, Tn. A lock system was also installed for river traffic. It was built in 1954. 

Old Hickory Lake was named after President Andrew Jackson. His nickname was Old Hickory. His plantation home called the Hermitage is also close to the lake.

The lake covers 22,500 acres, has 8 marinas and 41 boat access sites. It extends 97 miles upstream to Cordell Lock and Dam near Carthage, Tennessee.

Looking for more information about the lake, a good place to start is at the  Lake Visitor Center. It is located in Rockland Recreation Area in Hendersonville, Tennessee. There you will find out about hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, picnicking, boat rentals, rv campgrounds, and water skiing.

Old Hickory Lake has a large beach called Old Hickory Beach - It is located in the city of Old Hickory. It has a large sandy beach area with a playground, concrete tables and a large covered shelter. The cost is $4 per vehicle and the hours are 10 am to 6 pm open year round.

Directions: From Hwy. 45 (Old Hickory Blvd.) turn North on Industrial Dr. in Old Hickory, left on Swinging Bridge Rd., right on Burnett Rd.

Black Jack Cove - Located in the town of Old Hickory off Route 45. The Owner, Bart Bagsby has given the Marina a Pirates of the Caribbean flair. This has made it a visitors delight. The marina's restaurant is The Black Pearl. 2001 Riverside Drive, Old Hickory, TN 37138, 615-847-4022

Creekwood Marina - Over 250 slips up to 70 ft both covered and uncovered. It has boat ramps, modern restrooms and showers, gas pumps with 89 octane and pump-out station. Open year round. PO Box 315, Hendersonville, TN 37077,

Drakes Creek Marina - Dock Store, Fuel dock with pump-out station, and boat storage. Wet slip storage up to 80 ft, dry storage available. Boat sales, service, and parts available. Open year round. Located at 441 Sanders Ferry Road, Hendersonville, TN 37075, 615-822-3886

Shady Cove Marina - On site Shady Cove Restaurant with heated deck, open year round, Store, Pool, campground, restrooms and showers. Open year round. Located on Old Hickory Lake at 1115 Shady Cove Road, Castalian Springs, TN 37013, 615-452-8010

Anchor High Marina - A full service marina offering wet/dry slips, fuel (gas and diesel), and a small dock store. If you are hungry you will find one of the Nashville Lake Restaurants called Anchor High Grill.

It is a floating restaurant made from an old paddle-wheel boat. It has an indoor-outdoor patio. Open year round with entertainment on the weekends during the summer. Located at 128 River Road, Hendersonville, TN 37075, 615-824-2175

Cedar Creek Marina - Fishing supplies and Marine Supplies, fishing license, boat launching ramp, paved parking areas, private boat moorage, restrooms. Open year round. 9120 Saundersville Rd, Mt Juliet, TN 37122,

Cherokee Resort - Cherokee Steak House is located on site. Fishing and Marine supplies, boat ramp ramp, paved parking areas, private boat slips, restrooms, swimming pool, and open year round. Cherokee Dock Rd, Lebanon, TN 37087,

Gallatin Marina - Boat rental, fishing and marine supplies, boat ramps, paved parking areas, private boat moorage, restrooms. Open year round. Owner, Jeff Brauer, 727 Marina Road, Gallatin, TN 37066, 615-452-9876 Old Hickory Lake Islands, are there any? Yes there are, and here are their names: Alexander Island, Armstrong Island, Cedar Creek Island, Cunningham Island, Dixon Island, Harbour Island, Hartsville Island, Mills Island, Rome Island, Second Creek Island, and Whitleys Island. The question is, can I camp on these islands? No you can't, but you can camp on J Percy Priest Lake islands.

Harbor Island Yacht Club - (HIYC) is devoted to the promotion of sailing and sailboat racing. HIYC is a family friendly and inviting place for newcomers and sailboat veterans of all ages who enjoy sharing good times in a variety of social and sailing activities.

Anchor High Yacht Club, Old Hickory Yacht Club, Cedar Creek Yacht Club, Old Hickory Pan Fish Club, Old Hickory Lake Ski Club, and Old Hickory Lake Bowmen Club.
